STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT
INSUBORDINATION
Failure to follow the lawful directive of an ESHS staff member constitutes insubordination and may result in suspension. Chronic insubordination may result in further disciplinary action, including a district hearing panel, and expulsion.
DRESS CODE
Hair – Hair should be clean and well groomed. Hair styles distracting in appearance or needing constant attention are not acceptable.
Footwear – All students are required to wear appropriate footwear to school. Footwear must not mark or damage floors.
Clothing – Clothing which is ragged, tattered, or deliberately distracting in appearance must be avoided. Short shorts, short skirts, halter tops, bare midriffs, tank tops, cutoffs, "bike" shorts, and jeans of a "grubby" type are not acceptable. Clothing which contains slogans or insignia which are contrary to the educational purposes of the district should not be worn. This includes, but is not limited to vulgar words, profane or obscene slogans, and pictures or advertisements for alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.
Students who come to school in violation of the dress code will be asked to remedy the violations. If the student is unable to change, he or she will be required to leave the school premises.
LANGUAGE
State law prohibits the use of foul or offensive language on school property. Students who use foul language will be asked to leave campus and may have services suspended until a meeting can be held with parents and administration.
HARASSMENT/SOCIAL HARASSMENT/HAZING
Students have a right to a safe environment. East Shore High School is committed to the maintenance of an environment which is free from any form of harassment, intimidation, discrimination or sexual harassment. Individuals who harass students will have their access privileges revoked. In severe cases, perpetrators will be brought upon criminal charges and will be referred to a district expulsion hearing. If you experience harassment, please report it immediately to a school counselor, administrator, or resource officer.
PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION
Displays of affection that are distracting to the educational environment will not be allowed. Refusal to comply to ESHS staff request to refrain may be considered insubordination and grounds for suspension.
ATTENDANCE
Students enrolled at East Shore High School are required to maintain regular attendance. Students who are truant will be referred to district officials for Board Release.
CHECK IN/CHECK OUT
Students must check in and out on the computers in the labs every time they enter or leave the building/lab. If a student fails to check out upon leaving the lab they will be considered truant.
LOITERING
Students must have arrangements made for a ride as they have ten minutes maximum waiting time during the break. If their ride does not come during the ten minute pick up window, they will need to leave campus and then make arrangements to be picked up elsewhere.
PROGRESS
Students are expected to maintain a level of progress commensurate with the amount of credit which they are missing from their school of residence. Therefore, a minimum for Full-time students is to earn 1.75 credits per academic term, and Part-time students should earn at least 1.0 credits per term. Dual Enrolled and Adult students should earn the amount of credit required to meet their SEOP goals.
Students who do not maintain an appropriate level of progress may have their enrollment options reconsidered.
INTELLECTUAL INTEGRITY
Any work that is handed in should be of the student's own creation. Other sources used should be properly cited at the end of the document. Any student who is found to be handing in someone else's work, or found to be cheating in any other way, will have to redo all learning activities to receive any credit for that unit.
ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND OTHER DRUGS
East Shore High School is a Drug Free Zone. Students may not possess, use or distribute any alcohol, tobacco, other drugs or paraphernalia within 1000 feet (approximately three blocks) of school property. Students breaking the policy will have their parents notified and will be referred to the police and the school district for appropriate action, including a district expulsion hearing.
SAFE SCHOOLS
The Alpine School District Safe Schools Policy prohibits the following: dangerous or disruptive acts, hazing/harassment, abetting, gangs or gang activity, hate acts or groups, secret societies, possession of dangerous weapons or a facsimile of such. Weapons are defined as any item capable of causing serious bodily injury and shall include, but not be limited to, knives, firearms, metal knuckles, straight razors, explosives, poisons, drugs, and noxious chemicals. Any student found to be in violation of the Safe Schools Policy will have his/her access to the building revoked until a meeting can be arranged between parents and Administrators. Severe violations will result in referrals to the police and a district expulsion.
ID CARDS
ID cards must be worn any time that the student is on ESHS property. Cards must be worn above the waist and in plain sight. Students may not check out materials, test, or participate in any other activities without the card. ID cards are the property of ESHS and must be surrendered to staff members upon request. If the card is lost, stolen or defaced, the student will be required to pay a $1.00 replacement fee.
VISITORS
Parents are welcome at East Shore High School. Please check in at the front desk before proceeding to visit classrooms. No other visitors are allowed; this includes siblings, cousins, younger children, friends, etc.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Students are expected to respond to directions for orderly evacuation in the event of an emergency. Students are expected to stay with the teacher/staff member who supervises them during the evacuation. This will enable us to account for you if structural damage to the building were to require a search for survivors.
TRESPASSING
Any person who fails to yield when asked to leave by an ESHS staff member will be considered to be trespassing. Additionally, property surrounding East Shore High School is private property. Students should not be on private property unless they have formal business with the property owner.
ESHS students who are no longer enrolled in their school of residence are not to be on the campus of their school of residence without express permission of that school's administration.
