Math Essay Policy

In order to motivate students to learn mathematics in an appropriate time (neither too fast nor too slow) the Math Department has adopted the following policy:

Any student who completes and tests a math unit within five school days of the FIRST CHECK-OUT DATE will not be required to do an essay for the first attempt on the test.

Completes and tests means that:

•All packet work is finished, checked against the key, and all errors are corrected.
•All quizzes and pretests are checked by the teacher and the student has fixed all errors.
•The teacher has given the student permission to test and the student has taken the final test in the testing center.

Additionally the following rules also apply:

If a student needs a second testing attempt, the second test must be passed within two school days of the first testing date otherwise an essay will be required.

If a third test attempt is needed, the student will be required to write an essay and receive a passing grade before the third test will be scheduled in the Testing Center.

Please understand that if multiple math units are checked out on the same day, students will need to do all essays for any units not completed and tested on within five school days of the that date. In other words, the check date applies to ALL packets check out on that date.
